Today I just wanted to reflect on how lucky I am to be a mother and how thankful I am for the mothers in my life. I'm thankful I have a husband who understands how much I love staying home and makes that happen for our family. He is my backbone in this job. He listens and reassures me everything is going to be okay when I'm crying at night because I feel like I haven't gotten it right that day. It is a gift to be able to be here with them every day for every up and down in their lives. It can be a challenging gift, but always worth it. Jayden asked me the other day how I got paid and I told her in hugs and kisses. She smiled, unsure if I was okay with that so I told her I would rather get paid in hugs and kisses than in real money.
This has been more of an occasion now that my children are getting older. On Thursday, Kendall's school had a Mother's Day Tea. They sang songs and served us goodies. It was so special to see how excited she was to give me my gifts and sing the songs she had worked so hard on. She also gave me a plant she had grown. It was hard for all the mothers to contain our emotions because it was so special.
Jayden showered me with little notes and hearts with the most beautiful things written on them. The best of her gifts was a song she wrote especially for me today. In the song she said I was an angel to her heart. That meant a lot to me coming from her because she is now 7 and getting to the age where we can embarrass her. Jayden is truly an old soul and never hides her love for her family. I hope that never changes in her. Carson even seems to be smiling at me more this week. He will just laugh at me so hard for no reason. I like to believe it is because he thinks I'm the coolest person in the world, but will never know the truth!
I'm thankful for my mother and all that she does for my family. She taught me so much when she was raising me and I don't think she gives herself enough credit for that sometimes. I love her for all the unconditional love she shows our family. I know that I can tell my mom anything and she will always love me. That is a gift you don't always get from others.
I'm thankful for my mother-in-law and the relationship we have. I'm one of those people who can honestly say I get along with my mother-in-law. I love her for the passion she shows her family. She is always putting her 4 boys first, too much some times! She raised a beautiful son whom she taught how to love and respect others.
I just want to close with a spiritual thought they gave us at church today. "Let a mother counsel her children with love as well as with knowledge, for a proud youth may not heed his mother's words, but he will never forget her love." Matt and I love all the women in our lives and will never forget the unconditional love they give us.
